Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC) has put measures in place to limit the amount and dosage number of opioids prescribed in favor of alternative pain medication. They spoke to a local newspaper about these changes to better inform their patient community of the changes happening at the hospital. Initial prescriptions of opioids are limited to a five-day supply with dosage restrictions set to 40 morphine milligram equivalents. This will apply to TennCare enrollees as well. Exemptions will be made for those with cancer and other chronic illnesses. Individuals with broken bones, kidney stones, etc. will now be prescribed alternative pain medications in place of opioids.
