On August 31st from 10am-12pm at the Dyer County Sheriff's Office, The Prevention Alliance of Dyersburg & Dyer County hosted a contact free Prescription Drug Take Back, as well as a contact free Virtual Narcan Training seminar. Trainees received an E-Certificate and Narcan Kit after course completion.
Narcan (Naloxone) is a medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration to prevent overdose by opioids such as heroin, morphine, hydorcodone and oxycodone. It blocks opioid receptor sites, reversing the toxic effects of the overdose. It can provide you with the precious time needed until emergency responders arrive.
This event, including the training seminar and Narcan Kit, was free! Carrying Narcan can save a life. If you or a loved one is at risk for an opioid overdose (accidentally or otherwise), having Narcan is vital.
This event was also an RX Take Back, where all unused and expired medications were dropped off for proper collections and disposal. The Dyer community has two permanent drop boxes for these medications, as it is highly discouraged to dispose of them by flushing or dropping them in the trash. Visit either of our locations at the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office or the Newbern Police Dept.
