The Monroe County SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Clubs chose to participate in this years' National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week by picking a task that while simple in theory, was challenging at the same time!
The teachers of our SADD Club schools were placed in the hot spot and asked to decorate their classroom door with drug and alcohol facts and positive messaging. All the participating doors were voted on within the school by staff and students. The winning door was then entered into the county contest to be held through social media.
It didn't take long for things to get heated on Facebook while choosing the top four doors! It was a tight battle with Sweetwater Junior High in the lead, then Madisonville Middle School took over...back and forth it went with Sequoyah High School and Tellico Plains Junior High still in the running! As the last day approached and came--- the likes, loves and comments KEPT pouring in! Within a 24-hour period, TPJHS went from 4th place...to 3rd...to 2nd...to 1st... and they never looked back!
TPJHS took home the prize with over 400 votes! This National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week SADD club event helped pull our community together and share a wealth of facts along with great messages to our youth. A tally of all the votes proved to be over 1000 in just a few short days' time!
It is events like this that provide camaraderie within our schools, but also within our community. It reinforces that all of our goals are for the youth of Monroe County, and let's face it--- a little friendly competition is just plain fun! Attached you will find a picture of our winning door.
