In Cheatham County TN, the Cheatham County Community Enhancement Coalition hosted an IOAD event titled Overdose Remembrance Memorial. It ran from 6-8 pm and was held on the County Courthouse lawn. They had resource vendors such as the Quintenn Clark Foundation, Mirror Lake Recovery Center, HUSTLE Recovery, NA, Recovery Now, Tn Dept of Health Peer Navigator, Celebrate Recovery, and the Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist, who ultimately ran the event. They provided free naloxone training to attendees, as well as provided eco-friendly lanterns that individuals could write on and light later in the evening to release into the sky to conclude the event. They had music performed by Patrick Williams of Redemption Fellowship Church and opening prayer by Shaun Sutton, Pastor of Faith Community Church of the Nazarene. 2 guest speakers came to share their stories of loss and recovery, moving the crowd with their words and experiences. Their State Representative, Mary Littleton, read a list of names submitted of those lost to overdose, with a total of 40 names being read. County Mayor Kerry McCarver gave a proclamation for the OAD in Cheatham County as well. The evening ended with the lighting and release of eco-friendly lanterns against a sunset sky. It was beautiful, and the turnout was amazing—over 100 people! They know it meant a lot for those who came to offer this service to show our support for the community. Many feel that they are alone in this battle with addiction, be it within them or their loved ones, but they are here to show them that they are not!
